about

77 Karat Gold is a partnership of two of the hottest producers in Tokyo at the moment, Jazzy Sport chief grooveman Spot and RBMA alumnus and Eglo Records artist sauce81. Besides sharing a preference for lowercase letters, both accomplished artists come from a background of hip-hop, house, breakbeat and techno, and here we see them join forces to slot these disparate influences together to create one hell of a gem of a record.

Coming hot on the heels of grooveman Spot's internationally acclaimed 6th album Supernatural last year and stunning recent releases from sauce81, including his Natural Thing 7" release on Eglo Records in March and 2014's incredible In The Pocket album under his N'gaho Ta'quia alter-ego, the two gifted producers feed off each other's talent and influences to forge a gorgeous and rich full length, whilst evolving and deepening their soul-science.

Channeling the glossy shades of sensual soul from the likes of Marvin and Curtis, alongside the dangerous glamour of Sly and Prince's dark room funk, the pair take the listener on a diverse journey through the realms of hip-hop, beatdowns, boogie, Italo cosmic disco, and even minimal techno - showcasing a heterogeneous fusion of the evolution of funk and groove, and laying down a dexterous perfect example of where soul and funk music really is in 2015.
